Dieting from A Mental Perspective

Wednesday, March 25th, 2009

Welcome back!

When I named the 2009 Project “Don’t Diet With Me in 2009″ and I explained what it meant back in January, I frequently look back and wonder if I did an adequate job of explaining myself.  Today, when I began to write, I felt compelled to go over some basics again with you to help you understand why dieting from a mental perspective is permanent and effective, and dieting from a food and exercise basis can never be.

14 days till Our Baby Arrives!

14 days till Our Baby Arrives!

These days, our family is in an excited countdown waiting for our first grandchild/nephew!

It’s on our minds even when we are blogging!  :)

Back to mental dieting.  The word “diet” comes from the root word “day” and means the food you eat in one day.  Mental dieting, then, would mean the thoughts you think in one day.  Why the stress on “mental?”  Because, my loves, you are mental beings. You think, therefore, you are mind because only mind can think.  That would make you a mental being.

When you were born, every action you took was preceded by a thought. It was there alright, but because that action is invisible, very few seem to have noticed it, only it’s subsequent action.   It happened like this when you were a baby:

WORDS FROM PARENTS: Come on, little one, walk to mama.

THOUGHTS INSIDE YOU: I want to walk to mama.

SUBSEQUENT ACTION: You walked to your mama.

Now here is the great news:  You are still following this same pattern, only now, your parents are out of the picture.  You’re flying solo.  It happens like this:

THOUGHTS INSIDE YOU: I want to lose weight.  I’ll join XXX weight loss group and then I’ll lose weight.

SUBSEQUENT ACTION: You join the group and BECAUSE YOU ARE THINKING YOU’LL LOSE WEIGHT, you lose weight.  Trust me, it has nothing to do with the weight loss group.

Basically, you could save yourself a heck of a lot of money by NOT joining the weight loss group, by not buying the pills and potions and food, and by simply THINKING YOU’LL LOSE WEIGHT, you’d lose weight.  Why?  Because this is a mental universe and you are a mental, thinking being. I hope you’ll forgive my capitals.  I’m not shouting.  I just want you to see the important parts, ok?

This is the reason Oprah cannot keep her weight off.  She does not address the mental portion of the equation.  She does not correct her underlying thinking that food will cause her to gain weight.  She manipulates effect (food and exercise) but she doesn’t address the cause part (her thoughts.) Hey, I tried to tell her.  I sent her a copy of my book because I personally find it painful to watch her re-gain and lose that weight over and over.  And now, I’m sharing this information with you.

If any of this resonated with you today, it would make my heart leap with joy!  I am teaching all about this in my teleclasses.  Won’t you consider joining us and get yourself out from under this miasma each of us has innocently created?

Love you,

Pat

What DO You Drag Around On Your Body?

Friday, February 27th, 2009

I’m fairly confident that most of us have heard the ‘hit the ball and drag Charley” joke. You can Google it if you haven’t.  It came up during the week here at the World of Within, and I got to thinking about how we large women do that.

Now we all know that we big girls have big, big hearts that are generous, excessively conscientious, and overly responsible.  I knew one employer who made it a habit to hire only large women because, as he said, they did the work of two people due to that being over responsible.  I was not happy when I heard that one!  Smack!  Even in retrospect and ‘virtually’, that felt good.  ;)

We big girls have many wonderful character traits in common.  We also have some in common that are not quite so wonderful.  Turning a blind eye and a deaf ear to dealing with the past - the events of our childhood - is another one that many large women perpetrate.  It’s because of this that the “hit the ball and drag Charley” joke came to mind.

Your mind is Cause itself.  When you use it to think, it causes what you think.  And if you have stuff inside there in your years of experience going back to the very beginning of  your life that you haven’t made sense of yet, well, honey, it’s hanging all over your body screaming for your attention.

The World of Within's Office

The World of Within's Office

At the World of Within, we encourage looking at those things, so that once you get comfortable on the inside, you can do something about the outside.  My book My Cats Have Seen Me Naked tells you the story of how I accomplished self love and self acceptance while I was obese, and now, I am changing the outside by using the purely mental means I’ve learned that work. 25 lbs since Thanksgiving and counting.  :)

We have all been manipulated by the media to expect instantaneous gratification for all that we want.  Life doesn’t work that way.  You have to take each tiny step, and eventually in looking back, you see that you’ve come many miles.  That’s how life works.  If  Life was instantaneous, we’d all be gone from this plane. It’s important to take each stately step, but more importantly is to BEGIN to take them. That is my wish for you today.

If you’d like help beginning and then taking your stately steps, our Teleclass Series Fall Madly in Love with Yourself is beginning on March 9.  The calls are a lot of fun.  Hope to see you there.

Love,

Pat

Alone with Me and it’s Snowing like crazy outside!

Tuesday, December 16th, 2008

When I moved to the mountains 4.5 years ago, in my mind I was going to be doing some healing.  Did a question just get asked in your mind “Healing from what?”  Healing from my sense about my Self over all these years.  I am alone up here.  Oh sure, there are other people who live nearby, but I am isolated in my eyrie much of the time and I like it like that.  Today is a particularly isolating day because it snowed about 8″ last night.  It’s still snowing like crazy today.  The weather report predicts another 18″ of snow today and the winds blowing are making the snow swirl.  There’s not much traffic out, and it’s one of those days when introspection seem like a natural.

So, naturally, when I thought about writing for the World of Within Blog today, I went inside my Self to see what I could tell  you about.  I used to think that I had a lot of work to do to heal.  What I discovered since I’ve moved  up here is that all the hard work of self-correction I made prior to moving here was enough.  No more is necessary.  What’s now necessary is to stay focused on my right now, enjoy it for it’s beauty, recognize that if I wasn’t that beauty I’d never see it “out there” and just revel in the glory that surrounds me because I know I am all that.

I know that I am the great I Am.  I am so grateful for understanding that.  I know that you are the great I Am too.  I do wish you’d get a copy of my book My Cats Have Seen Me Naked where I explain in great detail why this is true.  I think you’d so enjoy embracing the allness of your own Self.  It could be the beginning of something wonderful in 2009 for you.

Love,

Pat
