Healing a Sense of Fat via Finances, of all things!

Thursday, September 10th, 2009

Hello. Happy you stopped by. You won’t miss one juicy tidbit if you sign up for updates in the box on your right. Don’t forget, it all starts with “My Cats Have Seen Me Naked” – a permanent healing message for you who struggle with bodily image.

H. unfolding happily

H. unfolding happily

Our new grandbaby is doing a happy job of unfolding himself.  Right now, nobody has told him that food is causative (because it isn’t) and he only knows mommy is right there when he’s hungry.  He only eats when he is hungry.

I find this process amazingly miraculous to watch and to recognize how subverted it had  become for me as I was taught things that were not accurate. I can look back into my childhood up until around the 8th grade and not remember being told anything about food making me fat.  We ate three meals a day and I got lots of pats on the head from my Italian grandma when she visited for having a wonderful appetite.  At this time, my body was a normal size.

It was when I made it through puberty and got into high school that the comments began.   “Are you wearing a girdle?”  This was accompanied by a poke at my hips.  Folks, I have a passion for life.  Part of that passion is the enjoyment of food.  Until high school, no one had ever made a comment like “You eat too much” or “You’re getting fat.”  I truly believe that my obsession about food began with that kind of comment.

Happily, I’ve worked through that process and I can now enjoy food for enjoyment’s sake alone.  I have created deliberate disconnects between food and the size of my body.  And actually, I have recently seen that the size of my body changes - not with food intake - but with the fear about finances!  Imagine that!!!!!  If you’re like me, I’d give that one a good long look. Of course, I am working on the finances thing - who isn’t these days - and I know that a permanent fix is immanent.  Then, I can turn my full focus on my bodily size project again.  In the meantime, I always applaud my perseverance into healing by purely mental means alone.  It take great courage to do it this way.  No pills, no shots, no surgery, just me, thinking accurately.  Mental discipline sure does come in handy.  Try it; you’ll like it!

Happy Wednesday to y’all!

Fat Isn’t The Only Problem Useful For Unfolding Spirituality

Stalactites?

Stalactites?

These icicles hang off my roof every winter.  They could be viewed as dangerous to your heart (if you stood under them when they cracked off) or delicious to your nurturence, if you let the water melt and drip into your mouth.

A lot of things can be viewed as either good or bad.  Me, I prefer to look for the good in things.  It makes my life much more harmonious and enjoyable. And by thinking about the good, I’m creating more good.  I have a friend who focuses on “what might possibly go wrong” over much in her life.  With this actively in her mind, are you surprised to hear she lives in almost constant pain?

So, you got dealt the “fat” card.  It’s a problem to be solved, that’s true.  It’s also such a blessing.  It’s the raw materials for your own spirituality.  If you solve this problem, put the problem in its proper perspective, you can advance your spirituality to a much higher level and in the end of your efforts, enjoy the harmonious life I do through working with this raw material.

What’s the card you’ve been dealt?  Too short?  Too poor?  To dumb (supposedly)? Poor vision? Wrong school? Wrong side of the tracks?  It doesn’t matter what your one challenging thing is - and we all have at least one challenge - you can begin right there where you are planted and grow something magnificent from your challenge.  I want to encourage you to begin to solve the who you are from what you’ve got and do it right away. The payoff is so great for all the efforts you make.

Love,

Pat

Self Love & Spiritual Healing When You’re Fat

whaleYesterday’s story about the mermaid or the whale was especially pithy I thought.  Can you imagine in your wildest dreams of actually choosing to be a whale?

What I loved about the story is that the writer used her powers of deductive reasoning to cull out all of the good inherent to being a whale, and I believe that this is the secret for every one of us.

In my experience, every one of us thinks he or she has “one thing wrong” and that this one flaw is devastating.  Fat people think it’s their fat.  Poor people think it’s their poverty.  And on and on.

It’s never about the one thing wrong:  it’s about thinking that the supposed one thing wrong it is.  It never is.  I’ve had people tell me all my life “I never see you as fat.”  But I saw me as fat.  So who was right and who was wrong?  I was wrong for much of my life.

The better idea is to focus on the inventory of the things in your life that are right and hold your focus there.  Do you know what is good about you? If  you get busy and discover that your one best forté is writing, for example, and you work to foster writing skills, you’ll become so successful in writing that you won’t care about your supposed “one thing wrong.”

Let’s all be whales.

Love,

Pat
