Dieting from A Mental Perspective

Welcome back!

When I named the 2009 Project “Don’t Diet With Me in 2009″ and I explained what it meant back in January, I frequently look back and wonder if I did an adequate job of explaining myself.  Today, when I began to write, I felt compelled to go over some basics again with you to help you understand why dieting from a mental perspective is permanent and effective, and dieting from a food and exercise basis can never be.

These days, our family is in an excited countdown waiting for our first grandchild/nephew!

It’s on our minds even when we are blogging!  :)

Back to mental dieting.  The word “diet” comes from the root word “day” and means the food you eat in one day.  Mental dieting, then, would mean the thoughts you think in one day.  Why the stress on “mental?”  Because, my loves, you are mental beings. You think, therefore, you are mind because only mind can think.  That would make you a mental being.

When you were born, every action you took was preceded by a thought. It was there alright, but because that action is invisible, very few seem to have noticed it, only it’s subsequent action.   It happened like this when you were a baby:

WORDS FROM PARENTS: Come on, little one, walk to mama.

THOUGHTS INSIDE YOU: I want to walk to mama.

SUBSEQUENT ACTION: You walked to your mama.

Now here is the great news:  You are still following this same pattern, only now, your parents are out of the picture.  You’re flying solo.  It happens like this:

THOUGHTS INSIDE YOU: I want to lose weight.  I’ll join XXX weight loss group and then I’ll lose weight.

SUBSEQUENT ACTION: You join the group and BECAUSE YOU ARE THINKING YOU’LL LOSE WEIGHT, you lose weight.  Trust me, it has nothing to do with the weight loss group.

Basically, you could save yourself a heck of a lot of money by NOT joining the weight loss group, by not buying the pills and potions and food, and by simply THINKING YOU’LL LOSE WEIGHT, you’d lose weight.  Why?  Because this is a mental universe and you are a mental, thinking being. I hope you’ll forgive my capitals.  I’m not shouting.  I just want you to see the important parts, ok?

This is the reason Oprah cannot keep her weight off.  She does not address the mental portion of the equation.  She does not correct her underlying thinking that food will cause her to gain weight.  She manipulates effect (food and exercise) but she doesn’t address the cause part (her thoughts.) Hey, I tried to tell her.  I sent her a copy of my book because I personally find it painful to watch her re-gain and lose that weight over and over.  And now, I’m sharing this information with you.

New Mind Model for Bodily Shape Change

Happy Monday, y’all.  This is a quickie update on the progress of my mental weight change project.  It’s about what I’m doing, how I’m doing it, and precisely what I’m thinking.

WHAT I’M DOING:

I have set aside three specific times every day to sit down quietly, calm my mind, and focus on my shape change project.  During this time, no music or TV is playing.  I’m nowhere near my computer so I can’t hear emails arriving.  I have created a space where I can focus my thinking.

HOW I’M DOING IT:

I think through every word of my Mind Model (following) and I work to embue the deepest feeling I can into each of the words, knowing they are true of me right now.

WHAT I’M THINKING:

This is my updated Mind Model.

My mind:

    • is perfect in it’s incipiency
    • is youthful and mature
    • is flexible and forward thinking
    • is strong
    • is organized, systematized and tight
    • is ageless

My body

    • cannot think
    • is my mind’s report card – a mirror image
    • is perfect in it’s incipiency
    • is youthful and mature
    • is flexible
    • is strong
    • is organized, systematized and tight
    • is ageless

My appearance

    • is beautiful
    • is youthful
    • is tight, taut, and toned
    • is lithe and lovely
    • is strong
    • is normal

Diet & Exercise

    • are mental
    • encompass all spare moments
    • are fun and fulfilling
    • guarantee absolute success
    • are a mental, permanent, cure
    • I am fed three times a day with right thoughts
    • I am exercised three times a day with right thoughts

My mental attitude

    • permeates my aura with the sweetness of success
    • smells just like confidence
    • is one persevering mother
    • is uplifting and joy-filled
    • has brought me to my last stately steps, these

I ALSO THINK THIS TREATMENT IN A LESS FORMAL SETTING:

I try to “pray without ceasing” so those times when I’m not sitting down to meditate on my Mind Model, I say this to myself.  Great for driving. I hold a specific picture of me at a more ideal weight when I say these words to myself.

I love to think that I am slender

and I am absolutely convinced

that thinking slender creates slender for me

because only thought is causative and I know it.

This is the format for mental work recommended by Wm. W. Walter.  I find it most effective. Using mental means alone, I’ve now lost 10 lbs since Jan 4th.  Hoo yah!

And here’s a special tip for those who are following me:  also think that your skin is shrinking along with your body.  No sense having surgery.  You can shrink the skin mentally as well.

The Law of Attraction Strikes Again

Today, great controversy and great agreement was made manifest at SelfGrowth.com here and it made my blood boil:

David Riklan, the site’s founder, posted a video explaining his take on the Law of Attraction.  The wide dissemination (much of it inaccurate) of individual opinions about this so-called law triggered something off in me and I felt it necessary to reply.  Scroll down on the site - you’ll find me there twice.  But the site limited me to too few characters, so I’m going to expand on what I said here.

For me, having devoted 30 years to learn the Law of Cause and Effect (What?  You didn’t know that the Law of Attraction is a watered-down version of the Law of Cause and Effect.  Hummm, interesting? Now you wouldn’t be one of those who swallows things whole without research, would you?) C&E is THE law.  We bandy the term Cause & Effect around, but I’m going to share a bit from my book where I discuss this in full detail.

The Law of Cause and Effect

You’ve heard that such a thing as Cause and Effect exists. Do you know that it is one of the laws in this mental universe? That’s right. Cause and Effect is a law. In a mental universe, those who can think are the lawmakers, because thinking is causative. Let that one soak in on you. Maybe a re-read would help.

Your mind thinking has been causing things all along. It’s one of those invisible things I mentioned before. It causes your experiences. More importantly, it causes your appearance. Oh good grief! Can this be true? You better pray that it’s true, because it’s your way out.

I’m here to tell you that it is true. Your thought is causative and what it causes is called the effect. Here it is in a very simple description.

Your mind is Cause. Everything you can see is Effect.

If that is surprising to you, let yourself exhilarate in a moment of joy, because this knowledge is the beginning of solving the problem of your mistaken sense of obesity.

As I said, just a tidbit.  The entirety of the book is about Cause and Effect, how your misunderstanding about that law created your problems with bodily size and self acceptance and how to undo it.  You cannot learn this in a five minute video.

Ask yourself one question here: can you in truth provide a definition for the word Cause that makes you satisfied?  How about effect?  I can share this with you: if you will do the work to answer those two questions, your life will change forever and for the best.
