Off to Mexico!

Welcome back!

It’s Seth’s
birthday tomorrow. He’s my second son, those of you who havenot yet enjoyed his
graphic arts or web-building talents. Seth ownsa surf camp in Baja
California and it’s an annual tradition that thefamily (me, his
brother Thad, and as many of Seth’s friends as can take the time
off) go there to celebrate his birthday. Sethwill be thirty seven
years old. Whew!

The
camp is
called Camp Chupacabra - Camp “Chupa” for short. If you
don’t know
that name, it’s a mythical Mexican blood-sucking beast.
The guys who own the
camp with Seth think this name alone will protect them from
theft down there! Interesting thought.

I’m leaving Thursday
(today) for this event and will return Monday
evening - Tuesday morning to work. Here are a few more ideas to keep your minds active until I get back.

1. Read labels
and learn what normal portion sizes are. It will shock you.

2. Consider
smaller portions. If you have to have
lots, let the lots be vegetables.

3. What is it you
don’t have enough of that the food symbolizes? I suspect it’s self love and self acceptance.

4. What can you
do to feed yourself acceptance? Make a
plan. Work the plan.

5. Be honest
about how you feel. If you can’t tell
anyone else the truth about how you feel, at least tell yourself.

6. If others
around you also have unhealthy eating habits, work together and support one
another to devise a new plan.

7. Keep yourself
meticulously clean.

8. Look for ways
in which you are in denial emotionally. Journal about it and try to tell yourself more truth.

9. Find one or
two things that you really enjoy doing that are not food related. Post them on your fridge for the tough times.

10. When you’re obsessing and turning to food and you
are not hungry, substitute one of those enjoyable things you’ve got on your
fridge.

Love,

Pat
