It’s been a lo-o-o-ong week!

Welcome back!

I had a wonderful time in Mexico with my sons. Without electricity or running water, the camp fosters two things: togetherness and conversation. When you spend the first 20 years of your life with your children, and then the next 17 watching them live their lives (and being delighted about that!) and when the time occurs that you get together for a period of days as a family, it’s somewhat strange. What has happened in the last 17 years is that my boys have become men, live adults, with attitudes, opinions and mannerisms that I love to watch. I got to do that four days running and it made my heart happy.

Putting all that schmaltz aside (this is the acid test to see if they even read my blog - hehehe), I was rather proud of myself for doing something - well, for doing nothing, really. I kept my mouth shut! In the past, I felt it was my role in their lives to teach, to guide. I have given up on that. They are each their own man and they don’t need me for guidance any more. Does that stop either of them from sharing his comments about his brother? Naw! I heard both sides. They each come from different corners of the ring and the view from each corner is drastically different.

My huzzah for me comes from the fact that I kept my mouth shut. This is a glorious accomplishment given my past. I would like to think that shutting up and letting go would parallel itself in my body. It did. I now weigh under 300 lbs! In a mental universe, the parallels are so fascinating.

Love,
Patty
