Good grief! I’m an Evacuee!!

Hello. Happy you stopped by. You won’t miss one juicy tidbit if you sign up for updates in the box on your right. Don’t forget, it all starts with “My Cats Have Seen Me Naked” – a permanent healing message for you who struggle with bodily image.

Hello, my readers. Much to my surprise, last Monday as I was doing a backup on my PC, the electricity to my house was shut down. I have a full-house, emergency backup system that operates off natural gas, so in 60 seconds as it was cranking up, suddenly it shut down too! Hummmmm? My life in the mountains is wrapped rather securly around my thinking and my work for my clients, so I was a bit non-plussed as to what was going on. I went outside to see why the generator wasn’t on. The sky was startlingly blue; the wind was gentle and there was a carpet of golden oak leaves all over the ground from last night’s high winds.

And my neighbors were packing their cars! I quickly discovered that there were fires in the area and that we might be evacuated. I had thought all this out before - what was important; what could be left behind and I wouldn’t care if it was destroyed; how to get the cats out fast….I had prepared stacks of clothes to take to Cabo next week so my clothing was at the ready. The folders of important documents was at the ready. I dissembled the PC and then I got after Percy and Chi. Normally, my cats are mellow fellows, but they could sense something different in the air. I chased them up and down the stairs, closing doors and narrowing down their escape route. The hardest part was moving my king-sized bed back and forth to try and retrieve Percy. You know how when you have children the last thing you say to them - the thing you mean the most? - that is what they listen to??? Cats are no different. I’ve never had to raise my voice to them before. Percy was mad at me for four days and sulked under the bed…

…the bed my friend Sue provided for me and for them. Another two friends stayed in her other bedroom. We four (and our five pets) are staying in those two bedrooms. Sue also has two pets who stay in her bedroom. Barnum and Bailey has nothing on us! Sue goes to work each day and the three of us have been glued to the TV news plus information from www.rimoftheowrld.net which has done an INCREDIBLE service to the mountain residents.

Aside from my dispositional issued, we are all doing well. I’m bored silly and wish I could get to my clients work more easily. God knows I’ve got the time, but I didn’t think to bring their folders and the PC I’m using right now is slow as molasses. I think it would only add to the frustration to try and use this. I have to learn acceptance of what is here and deal with that. So the kitties and I just had a snuggle. I’ve found a collection of mystery stories in Sue’s library, and I’m enjoying some blue in the skies today. No more smoke here today! Oh wow! Sue just came home. Time to break off blogging and go chat. Bye for now!

Love,

Pat

    Pat,

So glad to know that you are well. My brother-in-law lives in the Lakewood/Long Beach area and last week my husband was visiting him while all these fires were raging! He made it home safely and I hope you are able to do the same very soon.

    hugs,
    cindy
