Detours. Do you take them?

Welcome back!

Silverwood_1
I live in the mountains as many of you already know. To get from one place to another frequently requires a drive distance of 12 to 15 miles. During that time (which I love) it’s just me in the car without distractions from work and house projects. I frequently use that time to do mental work for my mental/ spiritual projects: aka, reshaping my body using thinking alone. And that’s what I was doing yesterday when driving to a friends house.

However, - the big however - I had had a not-so-friendly interface with a family member and my mind keep jumping out of the groove I wanted it to stay in so that I could review and be angry about the interface. All of a sudden, this thought occurred to me: “You’ve just taken a detour. You’ve moved off the path you say you want to be on and you are frittering away what can be highly productive time for mental creation of my next best thing by obsessing emotionally over this interface.”

And then I asked myself this question: “Is taking detours a habit you sustain and maintain with regularity?” I had to admit that it was, but it wasn’t quite the large obsession it had been in the past. I thought of you, my readership. I know I haven’t blogged for a while because I just couldn’t dream up something I considered juicy and practical enough for posting. And then, Detours.

For myself, I really appreciate these recognition moments. One of my favorite quotations is from MB Eddy: “Error discovered is two thirds corrected and the rest dies from inattention.” So, I’ve discovered me taking detours. Here’s my plan: I’m making a mental note to be on the lookout for detours (which certainly take me off the track) so that I can drop their topic and get back to what I’m working to create mentally.

And I hope you’ve found this helpful. The World of Within is what this type of tip is all about!

Love,
Pat
