New Year’s Resolutions Regarding Weight

Friday, December 19th, 2008

Welcome back!

I come at things from as pure a mental perspective as I’m able to.  I’m about to launch into one more New Year’s foray into purifying my thinking about my body.  Thought  you’d appreciate it too.  I’d love to help you think like this.  It’s what I do at The World of Within, so why don’t you get the book and get started?

  • When I catch myself thinking any negative idea about my body, I will change that to “I love my normal-sized body.”
  • If I am tempted to return to the “this food causes something on my body” idea, I will change that to “I truly enjoy this food and I eat it in moderation solely for the purpose of enjoyment.”
  • If my eyes catch the sight of me in a mirror and some inner groan begins, I will change that to “Hiya pretty lady.”
  • If I find myself tempted by the latest diet pill advertisement in the supermarket magazines or on TV, I will remind me:  “Been there.  Done that.  Pills are for making companies rich. My thinking myself thinner is effective, inexpensive, and permanent, and those pills are NOT effective, inexpensive or permanent.”
  • I enjoy walking.  When I walk, it’s not because I think that exercise is a weight loss technique.  It’s because I enjoy walking and I feel more limber when I walk.

Okay, that’s all I can think of for right now.  I’m thinking that if I discipline my thoughts and not permit myself to think “I am fat” in 2009, if that thought is not in my mind, it cannot manifest on my body, since that’s what’s been causing it in the past.  I believe that all the years of strengthening my thinking to make this change (actually, it’d be an omission) has brought me to the place where I can share it publicly with you and bring us into a community of women who share the same plight, solve the same problem, and enjoy the rewards of our thought projects.  So, let’s do this together in 2009, whadaya say?

Love,

Pat

Do You Have the Guts to Change?

Thursday, November 20th, 2008

It’s true, I’m an old fart, and old farts don’t change easily.  We’ve gotten comfortable with “how it is” even though “how it is” may no longer be working.  So I challenge myself to change frequently.  Can I give up my creature comforts?  Can I do things differently?  Can I institute new successes if I change?  Can you change? We’re at a political place in our country where people want change.  I’ve got a question for you: should only they change or are you willing to change as well? How much would you be willing to do differently?

Would you like to think differently about yourself?  That would be a big change, wouldn’t it?  If you’re fat, you’d have to give up on thinking about yourself as someone who is somehow less than. You would have to stop expecting people to poke fun at you.  You’d have to stop looking at yourself in the mirror and wrinkling up your nose because you don’t like what you see there.  You’d more than likely have to take an inventory of all the negative ways you view yourself and one by one, change them.

That’s the kind of thing we talk about at The World of Within. I happen to think that if you and I and Obama do our changing all together, wouldn’t this be a better world?  Let’s do it!

Helping the world’s obese women find

their voices, self-acceptance, and self-love

Are you ready to “get active?”

Tuesday, November 18th, 2008

For the new Blog, I want to be sure that all the categories I’ve created have “something” in each one.  One of the categories is Getting Active, and it needs it’s first posting.  What does that mean?

In the world of obesity, fat, overweight, pudginess, and chubbyhood, for the most part getting active means start on a diet and do an exercise regime.  Not so here at the World of Within.

Here, it means “get busy mentally.”  And do what, you ask?  Tolerate a little chide here:  if you’d read My Cats, you would already know; so, please click on the My Cats link and go see what my book is all about.  If you are a woman of size or a woman who’s size does not please you for your own reasons, you’ll really enjoy this new take on self love and self acceptance, size aside.

For those of you who may never read the book, and you want to get busy mentally, here’s an excerpt from one of the workbooks that will help you. You can download the workbook from here. (The answers are at the back of the workbook, and, they are in My Cats Have Seen Me Naked, the book.)

There is an invisible connection between cause, effect, your thinking and how your body looks. If you’re at all curious about it, and you wish there was something you could really do about it, read on

Understanding Cause & Effect

Cause and Effect is one of the mental laws governing life. I’m sure that you bandy those words around just as I did before I hunkered down and tried to figure out just what the words mean. Did that change my life forever! Yes, it did. I am hoping the work you do in this workbook changes you forever, too.

What is Cause

1. Can you see Cause? How do you know?

2. What does Cause cause?

3. What is Effect?

4. What does Effect look like?

5. What is Effect made from?

6. Can you see any connection between Cause and Effect?

7. How are they connected?

8. Are they separate or the same thing in a different state (like ice, steam and water)?
